 AFAIK the drive is PIO only, so it's easy to get audio problems.
 
 Does it work if you copy the wav file to tmpfs first ?
 If yes, does it still work if you read from disk with dd in parallel ?
 
 Of course, it shouldn't lock up at all. Can you enter ddb in that case?
