 Can't reproduce this at all (apart from using tset or tabs) on my setup.
 Can you compile xterm with `--enable-trace' and email the
 Trace-{parent,child}.out files that result after running kre's printf
 test?
 
 Do you see the same behaviour with another terminal emulator, or a newer
 version of xterm (370) ?
