 The recent commits related to this PR fixed the panic I was seeing as
 well.
 
 Likewise, the new issue noted by Andrius V. is now seen on my system.
 
 The first boot from power-up was correct (wd0 and cd0).  The second boot
 (warm reboot via 'shutdown -r now') showed the error.  The hard disk,
 wd0, was detected, but then it showed the same error about IDENTIFY
 failed for (nonexistent) wd1 instead of finding atapibus0 and cd0.
 
 I'll append such data to the proposed new PR when it appears.
