I built an install image using sources from 2014.04.07.21.35.41
(the oldest version of the CVS mainline that still builds under 8.0),
and it booted successfully. The device attaching immediately after
attimer1 is pcppi1, so I have a new candidate to try disabling in
 userconf:

   attimer1 at acpi0 (TMR, PNP0100): io 0x40-0x43 irq 0
   pcppi1 at acpi0 (SPKR, PNP0800): io 0x61
   midi0 at pcppi1: PC speaker
   sysbeep0 at pcppi1
