 Yes, that is exactly right.   This is not an awk bug, but a bug in the
 makesyscalls.sh script (which I will fix, sometime after Paul has
 committed his changes - no point in creating needless work.)
 
 And for full disclosure, after Paul found the issue of the script doing
 string comparisons (when numeric ones were clearly wanted), I
 pointed him at the text he quoted from POSIX.    He also queried the
 definition of "numeric string" which he noticed before I did, but
 decided the PR wouldn't hurt just in case...
