On amd64, using real hardware, searching for when the ddb prompt
 stopped appearing after "boot -d".

I can rerun my test scripts against i386, but the definition of "works"
will still be the same: "after boot -d, a ddb prompt appears". If you
would like me to test for a different problem than the ddb prompt not
appearing, I must still insist on a separate PR to formally define the
problem I am to test for.
