Actually, tried the test program under -current under Parallels which
claims to support AVX, seemed to work fine. Can you re-test with 8.0_BETA
and/or the -current kernel such as 8.99.12?

Relevant lines from cpuctl identify 0 on my (working) vm:
cpu0: xsave features 0x7<x87,SSE,AVX>
cpu0: enabled xsave 0x7<x87,SSE,AVX>
