 With modular/pkgsrc Xorg from pkgsrc-2015Q4, yes, it fails the same
 way.  I've only been able to test i386 so far.
 
 There was recently a change to "xf86-video-r128" in pkgsrc-HEAD which
 appears to address the issue.  I'll update that package to HEAD and
 see if that helps.
