  | so, i did read all of this and i think i pretty much agree with
  | everything in it that is easily doable (vs the questions :-),

Hmm, do you mean that the questions weren't, or that they're
unreasonable, or too stupid to ask ? (Yes I see the emoticon...)

  | netbsd-7 just went RC3 and we're hoping this will actually be what
  | is released, so changing libc now seems unlikely.

The pullup need not necessarily be before the release - this stuff
hasn't bothered anyone much until now, even the much more serious issues
in NetBSD 4 5 & 6 don't seem to have generated any bug reports I've noticed.
NetBSD 5 & 6 also need pullups (just more of them, and different ones),
and they're definitely already released!

But from what I've seen on the list, rc3 might not be the last rc anyway,
right?

And it is libutil, not libc - which should make late changes a little less
controversial - especially when they are obvious bug fixes.

ps: do you want me to generate a patch for the "easily doable" (which would
include only trivial man page updates) or will someone else just edit it?
Patches via gnats are likely to be more work to extract than is needed to
edit the code! But I could e-mail one to someone avoiding gnats if I know
who to mail it to (it will take a day or two (or three) to generate and test.)
