 Presuming the harddisc wd(4) is working fine on the external power supply, the
 looks like the harddisc is not getting enough power to function properly; Its
 circuits might brown-out due to power outlet restrictions on the boards power
 supply.
 
 It would be interesting to see if swapping harddisc types would make a
 difference.
