Since this commit http://mail-index.netbsd.org/source-changes/2013/08/16/msg046780.html gethostbyname and gethostbyaddr call nsdispatch with a struct getnamaddr * that contains the buffers required. The documentation in the nsdispatch(3) man page has not been updated.
