Another thought: I recall earlier you said that a USB install image
would work for you.  If so, then you can just download a standard
one*, boot and install from it.  Naturally, you would then be in a
better position to save the "dmesg" output. (I did mine the more
tedious way by just writing down what I thought were the important
parts and transcribing it.)

I did this sort of thing myself, only with a PXE boot because my older
PC is not able to boot from USB.  The installation worked fine and
disk access worked normally -- only the CD-ROM didn't work.
