On SHEEVAPLUG, also earm, with sources from 2013-08-11, something
similar happens. The kernel starts, init starts and sh bombs
 out with signal 11.

I tried the same with /rescue/sh which again fails with signal 11.

The I tried the same binaries on an otherwise working but slightly
older RPI system. The dynamically linked 'sh' (using the libraries
of the system) worked fine. The statically linked rescue binary failed
 with signal 11.

This would indicate a problem in the library code.

But then, the slightly older /rescue/sh from the RPI system showed
 exactly the same issue.
