 Well, it turns out you were right. It's been two days since I've
 disconnected the old USB drive and I had no errors since then.
 
 What baffles me, is how the USB peripheral was able to make the system
 unstable and even prevent "kill -9" from working.
 
 Anyway, sorry for the noise.
