The problem is that if you go download an official release source
tarball, you'll find all the random scripts in the tree have lost
their +x permissions. Then random stuff breaks.
This was still true not more than a week or two ago. If it's been
straightened out in the meantime, I'll be glad to hear it.
(but if so there's still a valid doc issue in here)
