 Can you verify that this is indeed caused by ACPI CPU and not by some other
 weirdness in ACPI (and/or its relation to other subsystems)?  An easy way to
 do this is to drop to the so-called "userconf" from the menu and type
 'disable acpicpu' and then boot with ACPI enabled (i.e. normally).
