Another system I have that runs an older version of current (5.99.52,
pre rmind-uvmplock merge) I see this messages:

xbd backend: attach device guests-ejbca (size 20971520) for domain 4
xbdback backend/vbd/4/51712: can't VOP_OPEN device 0xa908: 16

But the kernel doesn't panic when detaching the devices.
