 I've compiled KDE4 on NetBSD-current and indeed the problems with distortion 
 have diappeared on Radeon (HD 4350 on amd64).
 However, I've also done tests on a machines with Intel Graphics (G33 and 
 945GM, both i386) and have observed a different problem:  The splash-screen 
 on startup is displayed correctly but then the screen becomes black and is 
 unusable. The X-Server does not seen to hang or crash - the mouse remains 
 visible and I can switch to a text terminal using Ctrl-Alt-F?.
