I had similar hardware (a CUV4X-D ASUS PIII motherboard IIRC), where
disabling "PNP OS" in the BIOS really helped. This was not necessary to
run Linux, so I guess it could (and should) work without it though...

I remember to have added an ACPI quirk for this board (like for #40471)
but I don't remember if it helped :(
