 Well, that was my first thought, and also fair@'s back in 2004, but
 the submitter said he tried multiple cables. It could be the
 controller or drive but that doesn't seem too likely. I guess the next
 candidate is an inadequate power supply, but some weird driver issue
 isn't at all impossible either.
 
 Anyway, it seems worth looking into briefly. If we don't hear back
 from the submitter in a couple months I'll close it.
