I've attempted to install that patch, but my machine crashes immediately
during startup. I'm trying to determine if it is patch-related or if it
is something else.

Good news - a clean install of a clean kernel with a clean patch no longer crashes!

More good news - I can turn on ipnat and still have my UDP-mounted NFS file systems working.

Looks like "Problem solved"
