Does sound work fine from a simple program run in Linux emulation?

 E.g. does "tee < $HOME/.cshrc /dev/audio" using a Linux copy of tee
(so the device is opened from Linux emulation) make noise?

If so, and I'd expect it would, this is a firefox issue and not a
 kernel problem.

I think that's a known and unrelated issue, which should now be fixed.
