>Description:

        after a panic and being the kernel hanging in "syncing filesystems"
        fsck truncated some symlinks that were created shortly before the
        panic by a "make" in a kernel compilation directory and left
        zero length symlinks behind.
>How-To-Repeat:

        "cd GENERIC && make"
        break into ddb and
        "reboot 4"
        get lucky
>Fix:

        unknown.
