When I reported the bug, I had only attempted the compile on a sun4u
cross-building host. (The mvme68k is very similar to another,
currently unsupported, platform that I occasionally work on... I use
the mvme68k platform as a bell-weather for the state of the tree.)

I updated my source tree last night, but it failed to build all the way
with "regular" flags. I will compile the entire tree with -msoft-float
when I get a source tree that compiles completely *without* it first. :-)

Anyway. I just updated a minute ago and have kicked off a build to
see if the tree is in a compilable state this morning.
