I had to patch the caddr_t stuff a little to get it compile since I haven't
yet upgraded the system after this change was made.

It turns out that nothing has changed. I also didn't see relevant dmesg
changes (besides the Tab removal stuff).

The audio is still played through the microphone jack. I'm quite convinced
now that the right channel is missing because the hardware only has a mono
jack. I couldn't get Windows to play through the microphone jack to further
verify this, probably because one isn't supposed to do this because of the
mono jack. The Windows microphone test also only reacts on blowing into the
 left channel.

What's necessary to route the output through the headphones jack?

My desktop machine once had the same problem, but it obviously has a stereo
microphone jack, so this was less an issue there.
