I can't reproduce this issue on a dual-CPU i386 machine. It's running stock
-current: NetBSD 4.99.16 (SPANNERS) #2: Wed Mar 21 18:19:43 UTC 2007
The package I'm building is pkgsrc/lang/perl5, and I'm running the tests as
root.

I'll update pkgsrc and try again. Are you sure that your thread library and
kernel are up to date? Can you see something that I am doing differently?
