I think this is fixed in -current now (actually in multiple ways):
first, as david noted, fdisk does not do this any more.
Second, if we encounter unaligned buffers we do not do DMA transfers
any more, and last the PIO code has been fixed to deal with unaligned
transfers.
Could you test it (maybe with a current kernel and 1.6 fdisk)?
Is it ok to close this PR now?
