I'd _rather_ see the chdir removed, of course, at least absent fairly
specific request (makefile variable, command-line flag, whatever) to
the contrary.

As for what to do with the PR - I'd prefer to keep it open until either
that happens or it's decided that it won't happen, in which latter case
the doc update at least deals with the PR proper.
