Actually the last change fixed it - my testing got confused by a failed raid
component. I don't understand the exact sequence of events, but it seems the
bootblocks found the old kernel on the failed component and used that to boot,
but only since that boot raidframe declared the component FAILED.

Anyway, after a reconstruction this component has a few more relocated
sectors and if_wm.c works fine for me. Sorry for the confusion.
