When accessing a machine with ftp, using the anonymous account, the logout
time is not marked in wtmpx.

Just ftp to a maching that have ftp enabled. Log in as anonymous, and
logout again. Look with last at the entry in wtmpx and see that the ftp
user is still logged in.
