System: NetBSD 1.6R
Architecture: i686

cmpci0 at pci0 dev 11 function 0: vendor 0x13f6 product 0x0111 (rev. 0x10)
cmpci0: interrupting at irq 10
audio1 at cmpci0: full duplex, mmap, independent
opl at cmpci0 not configured
mpu at cmpci0 not configured

>Description:

It seems that if you access cmpci through the /dev/audio interface,
it resets the mixer settings to default values. By my understanding,
which matches other sound drivers, only the recording/playing parameters
should be reset, not the mixer settings.

Try using /dev/audio and wonder why the microphone keeps muting
itself. If you use /dev/sound, it works!

>How-To-Repeat:

Unfortunately, it cannot be repeated using audiorecord. Probably because
it fiddles with the monitor gain, which probably progagates down into the
cmpci driver and fixes the mixer. I can supply code on demand.
