There have been 300+ patches for Vim released in the last 11 months. Vim from the current pkgsrc does not apply any of these. Users on our system are actually affected by some bugs in Vim which have been fixed in these patches. 

I note code in the pkgsrc vim Makefile which apparently used to get and apply the patches, but it is commented out for some reason. I tried uncommenting it, but it didn't work (perhaps this is why it was commented out).
