As I've appended to the PR (I thought that would be forwared to this list
automagically as with new PRs, but that doesn't seem to happen...), I think
it's a PowerPC related problem that crept in around/shortly after September
12th, since
- I see it on NetBSD/prep as well
- there were no significant changes to arch/prep
- all non-PowerPC platforms I've tried so far don't seem to be affected
