When booting a kernel from the last 1.5H snapshot on a G3/Lombard, the
screen goes black in the middle of the boot process, around the line
abtn0 at adb0 addr 7: brightness/volume control
Pressing the brightness buttons to increase brightness makes text
appear again.
On following boots, the display doesn't go black again (if you used
brightness control buttons previously), but is only dimmed like in
power-saving mode; the brightness buttons on the keyboard don't change
that.

Boot a NetBSD-1.5H kernel on a G3/Lombard. Judging from Mails on
port-macppc, this is a common problem.
