COMMENT:
Programs and library for Cartesian projection
DESCR:
PROJ provides general cartographic projection support and is used in a
variety of ways. It's library is the core of the cartographic
conversions by MAPGEN. As a stand-alone UNIX filter function, the
program is used to provide transformation for latitude and longitude
coordinates to cartesian coordinate, converting digitized coordinates
to geographic coordinates and datum conversions. As a UNIX filter and
projection library, it is used to convert geographic coordinates to
cartesian coordinates and is a critical element in the WHIPS
processing while mapping sidescan sonar data collected by the Center
and creating digital sonar mosaics.
