I have a cisco 3524 here; no problems with the following boards:
tlp0 at pci0 dev 9 function 0: DECchip 21140A Ethernet, pass 2.0
tlp0: broken MicroWire interface detected; setting SROM size to 1Kb
tlp0: interrupting at irq 5
tlp0: Ethernet address 00:00:c0:f1:ee:e9
nsphy0 at tlp0 phy 3: DP83840 10/100 media interface, rev. 0
nsphy0: 10baseT, 10baseT-FDX, 100baseTX, 100baseTX-FDX, auto
tlp0 at pci2 dev 2 function 0: DECchip 21140A Ethernet, pass 2.2
tlp0: interrupting at dec 6600 irq 37
tlp0: Ethernet address 00:06:2b:00:f3:eb
nsphy0 at tlp0 phy 5: DP83840 10/100 media interface, rev. 1
nsphy0: 10baseT, 10baseT-FDX, 100baseTX, 100baseTX-FDX, auto
(the first one is a SMC board, the second the one which came with my alpha
DS20).
The problem may be specific to you board.
