	The 1.4.x i386 GENERIC config file, and config files which are
	simple modifications of it, include the line:

	nca1    at isa? iomem 0xd8000 irq 5

	I recently tried to add a 3c905C ethernet adapter to my
	system (HP Kayak XAs) which uses a kernel config slightly
	modified from GENERIC.  With the new ethernet adapter
	in the system, the kernel would hang while autoconfiguring.
	Without the new adapter, it would boot fine.  (This was true
	whether or not the kernel recognized the 3c905C as an 'ex' --
	it happened with kernels before and after 3c905C support
	was added to 'ex', and with kernels with no 'ex' support at all.)

	I added printfs to subr_autoconf.c:mapply(), to print the name
	of the driver whose match routine was be called, and this
	indicated that the nca match, in particular for nca1, was the last
	thing to be invoked before the system hung.

	I then removed nca1 from the config file and the resulting
	kernel would boot fine.
