>Description:
ever since we cut over to using pax instead of gtar for
extraction of the distribution .tar.gz files, i've found
that various symlinks I have (including /home and /usr/local)
get removed and replaced with directories.

>How-To-Repeat:
	make /home or /usr/local a symlink. extract base.tar.gz
with pax. wonder why things don't work anymore.

>Fix:
don't ship tarfiles with empty placeholder directories for
stuff like /home and /usr/local. maybe ship an mtree
specification that's to be used post-install which creates
	these directories on new systems.
