When you do a "Make devices", Installer 1.1e creates
/dev/[pt]typ1[0-5] instead of /dev/[pt]typ[a-f].

Run the installer and make devices.
I haven't looked at the source, but probably just change a %d to %x
somewhere :)

This should be fixed before 1.3...
