OK, so would the change I orginally suggested work, with "needs-flag"
replaced by "device-driver"?  audio.c is a device driver, in that it
needs a cdevsw entry in conf.c.

dev/audio.c optional device-driver

(I admit I'm not up to speed on old config any more.)
