yeah, i found this (literally) a couple of years ago...  At the time
it also did bad things to SunOS and Ultrix boxes.  Others have noticed
it, too, and there's a PR filed on it (950).

It's still a bug in NetBSD-current.

As i recall, it's fixed in the Lite-2 kernel sources, so if those are
ever integrated it'll be fixed.
