Subject: NetBSD 1.1 PPP errors and hangups

I'm thinking of upgrading our firewall from NetBSD 1.0 to 1.1 but thought
I'd run some tests first to ensure PPP runs OK. So I've installed 1.1
on a Pentium 90 with 16550A UART and I've tried PPP to a Netblazer and
a Xylogic Annex. Each time I connect OK but when I start pounding the
line (ftp) I get messages like those included at the end of this mail.

The ftp does eventually finish (if the line isn't dropped in the mean time).

After a while the line hangs up after anywhere from 1 to 10 minutes with
only the message "pppd[2101]: Modem hangup". When this occurs during a
transfer the TX/RX light goes off for a while before the hangup occurs.

Are these messages/problems normal? What could be causing the abnormal
hangup, there are no messages logged at either end giving any reason for
the disconnect? How can I get more debugging information so I can work
out why the line hangs up? I've got debug and kdebug on.

BTW, the NetBSD 1.0 box doesn't exhibit the same problems (except for
the silo overflow).

	Thanks in advance, dmh

ps I'm also getting stray interrupt 7 messages and configuration errors
regarding the PCI bus, what do they mean? (there are no PCI cards in the
system).
