System: NetBSD gandalf.bbb.no 0.9B NetBSD 0.9B (GANDALF) #6: Wed Jun 8 14:38:36 MET DST 1994 tholo@gandalf.bbb.no:/usr/src/sys/arch/i386/compile/GANDALF i386
>Description:
ipcs(1) does not use kvm(3) to get at kernel symbols, and
does not show any shared memory information. It also has
no manual page.
In addition to this, lots of scripts expect to get the same
kind of output as on most other systems implementing SYSV IPC,
something that will not work with the ipcs(1) in the current
distribution.
>How-To-Repeat:
Compare ipcs(1) output with output from a system closer to
SVID. Also note that shared memory segments never show up
in the list of active SYSV IPC stuff listed.
>Fix:
These patches change ipcs(1) to be a superset of what it
used to be, adds a manual page and at the same time buys us
compatibility with most other versions of ipcs(1).

+ .Nd report interprocess communications facilities status
+ .\"
+ .Sh SYNOPSIS
+ .Nm ipcs
+ .Op Fl MmQqSsabcoptT
+ .Op Fl C Ar namelist
+ .Op Fl N Ar memory
+ .Sh DESCRIPTION
+ The
+ .Nm ipcs
+ program provides information on active SVID interprocess communication
+ facilities on the system.
+ .Sh OPTIONS
+ The information is displayed in columns and is controlled by the following
+ options:
+ .Bl -tag -width "-C namelist"
+ .It Nm -M
+ Displays system information about shared memory
+ .It Nm -m
+ Displays information about active shared memory
+ .It Nm -Q
+ Displays system information about messages queues
+ .It Nm -q
+ Displays information about active message queues
+ .It Nm -S
+ Displays system information about semaphores
+ .It Nm -s
+ Displays information about active semaphores
+ .It Nm -T
+ Displays system information on both shared memory, message queues
+ and semaphores.
+ .El
+ .Pp
+ If any of the options -M, -m, -Q, -q, -S or -s are specified, only
+ information about that item is listed. If none of those are
+ specified, information about all active interprocess facilities are
+ listed, and if the -T option is given all system information about
+ the interprocess facilities are listed.
+ .Pp
+ For the active status listings extra information can be listed with
+ the following options:
+ .Bl -tag -width "-C namelist"
+ .It Nm -a
+ Select all the options (short for -b, -c, -o, -p and -t)
+ .It Nm -b
+ Show the maximum allowed size (number of bytes in a message queue,
+ size of shared memory segment or number of semaphores in each set)
+ .It Nm -c
+ Show the creator's name and group
+ .It Nm -o
+ Show outstanding usage (number of messages or number of processes
+ attached to a shared memory segment)
+ .It Nm -p
+ Show the process ID information (last process to send and receive
+ a message, process that created semaphore or last process to attach
+ or detach shared memory)
+ .It Nm -t
+ Show access times (last control operation, last send or receive,
+ last attach or detach of shared memory, last operation on a
+ semaphore)
+ .El
+ There are also options to control the name list and memory image
+ to be used as follows:
+ .Bl -tag -width "-C namelist"
+ .It Nm "-C namelist"
+ Use specified namelist in place of /netbsd
+ .It Nm "-N memory"
+ Use specified file for memory in place of /dev/kmem
+ .El
+ .Sh RESTRICTIONS
+ The system may well change things around while
+ .Nm ipcs
+ is running.
+ .Sh FILES
+ .Bl -tag -width /etc/passwd -compact
+ .It Pa /netbsd
+ System namelist
+ .It Pa /dev/kmem
+ Memory
+ .It Pa /etc/passwd
+ Username lookup
+ .It Pa /etc/group
+ Group name lookup
