I installed NetBSD 0.9 on a Gateway 2000 pentium w / 16Meg and a
PCI bus system. It appears to run very well. I am now
installing XFree86-2.0 using the Mach32 server.

The video is composed of an ATI PCI Mach 32 card and a 17" Gateway
Crystal Scan 1762 monitor. The ATI card has partnumber 113.23000-100
it has the following chips on it (along with 2 meg dram):
o MACH32 / 210688AX00
o ATI 68875
o ATI 18811-2 w/14.318T crystal

I have copied the Xconfig stuff that looks "close"
to this configuration. I have rebuilt the kernal
specifying busmouse mms0 and options XSERVER, UCONSOLE.

Upon attemping to execute startx, xinit. or xdm the screen
records normal echoing of the initialization messages,
flashes two or three times and locks up (to
be resolved by rebooting).
If I execute startx >&startx.log the screen
records normal echoing of the initialization messages,
flashes two or three times and returns to a slightly
damaged screen handler. The file startx.log contains:

TIOCGPGRP: Inappropriate IOCTL for device.

DO you have any suggestions on how to resolve this
situation?

Thanks,

Bill Hodges
