Hello,
on behalf of the NetBSD Release Engineering team, I am happy to
announce the availability of NetBSD 4.0 Release Candidate 5.
Binaries and ISOs are available from
ftp://ftp.netbsd.org/pub/NetBSD/NetBSD-4.0_RC5
The list of changes from the 3.0 release is available in the release
notes, online at
ftp://ftp.netbsd.org/pub/NetBSD/NetBSD-4.0_RC5/i386/INSTALL.html#Changes%20Between%20The%20NetBSD%203.0%20and%204.0%20Releases
This release candidate has several bug fixes and other changes since the
previous release candidate - RC4.
Most important bug fixes are:
- A bug that could prevent hpcmips from booting has been fixed
- aac(4) is now fully supported on amd64
- a bug in the st(4) driver that could cause a kernel panic or data corruption
on tape error has been fixed
- a bug that would cause kernel panic with lfs has been fixed
- com*/lpt* at acpi? has been removed from GENERIC kernels, so that
the on-board com(4) and lpt(4) ports will be at their traditionnal
locations.
The complete description is found in the CHANGES-4.0 file in the release
tree, online at ftp://ftp.netbsd.org/pub/NetBSD/NetBSD-4.0_RC5/CHANGES-4.0
(Scroll down to the end of the file and see the entries between
the RC4 and RC5 ones.)
The com*/lpt* at acpi? removal means that if your on-board com(4) or
lpt(4) were numbered starting from 3, they will be renumbered starting
from 0 with RC5.
If you want to build NetBSD 4.0_RC5 from source, use the
"netbsd-4-0-RC5" tag for your CVS update, please.
Alternatively, you can download the source sets from the "source"
directory under the URL above.
We hope that this release candidate to be the last one before the final
release of NetBSD 4.0. Please help us to test it as much as possible to make
NetBSD 4.0 a solid release.
Thanks, the NetBSD Release Engineering team.
