Best Power UPS Distributes Source Code
June 10, 2000

I just received my Best Power (http://www.bestpower.com) UPS this week,
and was delighted to find that they include _source_code_ for their UPS
monitoring software. It compiled on my NetBSD box with no errors using
the included Makefile. This program then drives two scripts that take
care of notification and shutdown procedures. Good work, Best Power!

NetBSD: NFS over IPv6 coming along
June 06, 2000

Frank van der Linden has modified NetBSD's RPC code (the library code,
rpcinfo and rpcbind) to be based on the "TI-RPC" interface, Sun's
second-generation RPC code, which is one of the components necessary
for using NFS over IPv6.

Not all applications have been adapted to the new interface yet, but
they will continue to work because the old interface is still there
for backward compatibility, and the upcoming NetBSD 1.5 release will
allow using all RPC services over any protocol like IPv6 as well as
IPv4, while the old interface was restricted to IPv4. This makes
complete IPv6 support across the board possible for all standard
user applications, which has not been available in open source
operating systems so far.

Further details (including instructions on how to upgrade) are
available in Frank's announcement in the current-users mail archive.
