I have prepared another project that is less redical and is much more 
like orignal netbsd.org.
I have shown two possibilities for language selection I found reasonable.
I also prepared some example feature presentation buttons that Hubert 
suggested.
There are also some links on the grey bar that could be added if the 
webpage navigation was redesign, but for now it's only an example.

Note that it is still only a gif. You can see it at

The grey bar could also be used on some subpages for navigation, 
something like 
http://manta.univ.gda.pl/~jkutzman/netbsd/site/1112handbook.gif
The left menu colud then be used for table of contents.
