"What comes to mind is the NetBSD project's pkgsrc system. I have
had occasion to use it whilst installing NetBSD on a Quadra 605
recently, and it is quite graceful. pkgsrc already has an implementation
for Darwin, so it would be easy for Apple to jump behind this
project."
