aparently some linux wheenies wanted to make the redhat binary format
(and probably system call interface) some kind of "standard" for all
platforms. 

See http://www.redhatisnotlinux.org/ for a petition against it.
In particular, the list lacks QUITE a number of NetBSD entries.
