I would suggest a separate volume with all the precompiled packages
and a few (useful/popular) ones on the installation set.

I appreciate having all the packages in precompiled form on the
Gateway! cd; although many of them are by outdated quite quickly, it
enables me to surf the functionality, and if I need it, I can get the
newest versions off the 'net.
